FAQ
How are words counted?
Words are separated by spaces, like in Word or Google Docs. Chinese and Japanese, which don’t use spaces, are split into words by your browser’s built-in language rules.
Are emoji and accented letters counted correctly?
Yes. Each visible character counts as one, so emoji like 👍🏽 and combined letters aren’t double-counted.
How is reading time calculated?
We use an average of 238 words per minute for reading and 150 for speaking. Korean, Chinese and Japanese text is estimated by characters.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. Counting happens in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.
